Absolutely

Interior - Day - Homescroft Road Flat

Vince is ominously fixing a new lock while Penny struggles to carry in her suitcases. It is a vast improvement over when we last saw it beautifully attired.

PENNY
"We've been living together now for 9 seconds and already the magic's gone."

Vince carries the cases into the bedroom (unseen) and Penny phones her mother

DAPHNE
"[Daphne] Who is it"
PENNY
"What do you mean who is it I'm an only child"

Daphne does not approve of them moving in together and is most worried about what to tell the neighbours

PENNY
"Tell them I've been kidnapped if you find the truth too embarrassing"
DAPHNE
"I tell them you've joined the Moonies"

Vince walks past Penny on the phone

VINCE
"Your mother ? I thought the room had gone cold"

He sits down as Daphne gives her daughter the 3rd degree reminding her of the wedding

VINCE
"He's different now .. now days I think for myself"
DAPHNE
"Your just making it up"
PENNY
"No I'm not Vince told me"

Penny re-explains how they spent their life savings on the flat and sticks up for Vince

VINCE
"He's a trust worthy - reliable and responsible adult"
DAPHNE
"Really what became of the BMW sports car he claimed to own"
VINCE
"I lost it in a game of pool"

Penny is aghast and asks if he really did lose it in those circumstances

VINCE
"only just Pen only just"

Daphne reminds her of the expensive watch she was given for her birthday

DAPHNE
"Did I mention it cost £200 ?"

Daphne turns on the guilt trip

PENNY
"When you wear it .. think of Daddy and me"

And she mentions she and Norman are going to a Wine importers conference in Bournemouth for weekend.

Vince and Penny admire the work they have put in.

VINCE
"I don 't know what the word is"
PENNY
"Proud ?"
VINCE
"Randy"

They go their separate ways to work.

Exterior - Day - [Eddie Brown's] Outside Eddie Brown's Bookmaker

Vince leaves for lunch but the police draw up and take him away

Interior - Day - Homescroft Road Flat

Penny returns home to the flat to see Vince already there solemn as the flat has been burgled taking

VINCE
"fridge - food mixer - coffee percolator - TV set and the stereo"
PENNY
"Its got nothing to do with one of your bets has it?"

Vince is trying to comfort her

VINCE
"I was going to run the Hoover over it before you got back .. to remove the curse off it ... but I didn't have the energy .. or the Hoover"

Penny tries to rationalise the event

VINCE
"They strike indiscriminately .. like British rail"

Vince is pushed into revealing more details of the crime

PENNY
"Some one forgot to lock when she left this morning"

Penny is more annoyed at the fact Vince has some hold over her now but he promises

VINCE
"Penny I'll never mention again as long as I live"

Vince repeats what he police has told them

VINCE
"Don't now who they are or why"

They didn't take did take a picture of Daphne and left Penny's clothes but not Vince's mush to her disdain.

PENNY
"what's wrong with my clothes"

They are now left broke.

Penny recounts she saw teenagers hanging around

PENNY
"I could a very detailed description there were two black guys and one white fellow"

[Fun Boy Three]Vince is a little more realistic

VINCE
"They could have standing on the corner for any number of reasons .. they could have been the Funboy Three on their way to a gig."

Penny reveals she is even more irate as she got a parking ticket today as well.

They find the best in the situation as they still have each other but cant get over the fact their privacy has been violated.

Penny recounts how it this happened to friends and they got all the things back on the insurance.

PENNY
"Alison and Martin they were at are wedding"
VINCE
"Yes Pen but i wasn't"
PENNY
"At least in six or seven weeks we will be able to replace everything... Vince please tell me that we're insured .. really no"

Vince has forgotten to post the insurance despite the bookies where he works being right next door to it. An argument about forgetting ensues. Of course the matter of the door get raised.

VINCE
"No Pen you're the only who forgot - I remembered to lock when I left and the police remembered as well even the bloody burglars locked it when they left"

Penny storms off home hoping to take her clothes

PENNY
"You said they left my clothes"
VINCE
"Did I say anything about your suitcases"

Penny starts quoting her mother

PENNY
"The difference between men and toys is just the size of their toys"

Vince starts the insults by calling her "Scarlet O Hara" - Penny only half takes this in

PENNY
"I've survived a wedding that never was and a broken marriage so I can certainly live with your childish insults."

The insult sinks home and she does a double take

PENNY
"What do you mean Scarlet O Hara - Scarlet O Hara was a spoilt and conceited bitch"

This becomes a crucial moment as Penny fed up declares

PENNY
"this is the end the is the end of us"

Vince calls after her

VINCE
"Pen"

There's a pause as you expect him to talk her into staying but his mouth is in gear not his brain

VINCE
"Don't forget to lock the door behind you."

Interior - Day - Warrender's House

[Penny]Penny has changed and is curled up on the sofa. Norman has been gone dispatched to fetch Penny's clothes from the flat.

Daphne is getting anxious he has been gone 2 hours

DAPHNE
"I hope he hasn't a crash with your clothes in the car."

Daphne starts one of her dubious morality tales

DAPHNE
"In 1959 Aunt Dorothy put head in a gas oven forgot about the pilot light and blew up 3 houses and a Polish bakery."

Penny fails to see the significance of this

DAPHNE
"She was at her your wedding"
PENNY
"Was she the one that would not take her hat off"

Daphne resorts to more subtle comforting

PENNY
"I'll get over it I always do."
DAPHNE
"We look upon ourselves as a sort of safety next to cushion you from your all too frequent falls"

[Norman]Norman turns up eventually

NORMAN
"I've looking over the place with Vince what a mess"
DAPHNE
"so how's the flat looking"

Daphne surprisingly vents her anger and sides with Vince and Penny

DAPHNE
"mindless vicious thugs with their flick knives and boover boots I wish they leave me alone with them in a room with them for 10 minutes"

Penny is anxious about the more personal things

PENNY
"how was Vince"
NORMAN
"alright I think - a bit red around the eyes"
PENNY
"Had he been crying?"
NORMAN
"No drinking"

Norman and Daphne set off for their trip to Bournemouth. Penny goes through the bag and finds the a watch similar to the one she had stolen that Vince has tucked in.

Norman returns briefly dad comes back into each other.

PENNY
"We're not seeing each other so why did he borrow £200 to buy me a watch ?"

Interior - Night - Warrender's House

Penny is on the phone to her Daphne "See you on Monday". The doorbell rings and she goes to answer it - it is Vince.

PENNY
"Hold on I've locked the door"
VINCE
"Better late than never Pen"

Vince stands in the doorway with right cream shoe asking if it hers. She is forlorn and he talks her round to letting him in. She is still under the impression he has committed a great sacrifice to buy her the watch.

His magic works so well he is invited upstairs

VINCE
"don't forget to lock the door."

The credits roll as a glowing Penny looks out of the window seemingly sad. She rejoins Vince in bed and is actually extremely content.

PENNY
"Vince - thank you"
VINCE
"[Vincent]Do don't have to thank me"
VINCE
"I was talking about the watch"

Vince explains how in fact the police had caught the burglars and they have got all their stuff back. Penny is not even phased by this revelation when she had thought Vince had paid for a new watch. Nothing can spoil the moment.

She sighs expressing how wonderful the police are

VINCE
"Absolutely"
